I've never turned antler before but have some on the way from a friend
I just read a tutorial on a knife board explaining how straighten anter by boiling it then placing either in clamps or a vice for a few weeks to dry. Seems the author has been very sucessful doing this and making otherwise difficult sections of antler much more usable.

There seems to be the caveat that in time the straightened antler may 'curve' back again. Should make for an interesting if not crooked pen.

Wow, and to think of all the antler I discarded because it was too curved.[:(] Now I just need a big bench vise and a new bench to hold it.[:D]
