Stablizing a blank is where they impermiate a wood blank with a type of resin under pressure. It stablizes the wood and fill cracks and and other imperfections. Some burls this works great on as there is lots of inclusions that otherwise would fly apart on the lathe.

There are ways of doing your own, I have tried it myself with good results, But I also would buy already done.
