i just received snakeskin blanks in a swap, is it typical to see the brass through the skin, i got one for a sierra and a baron and you can see the brass through the baron blank

I think that's normal if you are getting them in a trade.
If you get them from Dawn, she chooses to eliminate that "feature".

I've never seen the brass on any of the blanks I've gotten from Dawn, but has she figured out how to prevent the turner from cracking them? :biggrin:

i haven't turned the blank yet, but whatever way i held it to the light i could see the brass

I am supposed to give lessons over the phone if anyone has difficulties. I HAVE FOUND a failsafe method to avoid cracking, with even the most inexperienced turner.
1) ask for an assist from your wife or significant other.
2) find your duct tape
3) hand duct tape to wife or s.o.
4) put hands behind back
5) loop duct tape over crossed wrists
NO DAMAGE has been done to any blanks, when these instructions are followed precisely.
Some guys report a sudden lack of interest in turning, if the s.o. becomes involved in this new form of entertainment.
