Has anybody here turned the Artists Sketch pencil from CS? I recently bought 3 and when I turned them all 3 were underturned at the nib end. So I took my calipers and measured the nib and the bushing.
The results were-
nib-.542
bushing-.553
This cant be normal. Anybody experienced this too?
The instructions do say the nib bushing is .557

I'm guessing you mean blank was proud of the nib,
as in sticks out larger than metal nib and feels horrible?
(because this was my case. If it is yours too, I have a remedy.)

Same here. I bought some kits eight months ago and the bushings were oversized. I bought several more kits about three weeks ago and ordered two more sets of bushings thinking that the newer ones would be correct. Wrong. They are the same size as the ones I bought in the beginning.

It's a lot easier turning a pen using calipers with undersized bushings than it is trying to turn a pen using calipers with an oversized bushing in your way.

This is what I do..
Turn and sand blank to 400 grit.
I come right down to the nib bushing, still leave
clip end a little proud.
Remove blank from mandrel, and using 6oo paper,I lightly
round/chamfer the sharp edge at the nib end.
Go easy until you get the feel for finished results.[:)]
Return to mandrel and sand/polish to last stage,
paying extra care to get on the "rounded" edge.
A little difficult, but can be done.
I also do this on cigar lower barrels
where they meet the centerband.much more finished look/feel.
There is also nothing wrong with taking a cheap skew
and kissing a few thousandths off the bushing diameter,
if you are positive this is what needs to be done.[:p]
Hope this helps, give it a try.I am personally much happier
with mine done this way.

The only thing I know is they bushings are not supposed to be the same size. The larger bushing is for the top of the pencil. Your instructions could be wrong. The ones from Woodcraft were wrong early last year until I reached their product manager and convinced him over the phone that the bushings were not identicle and their instructuions said they were. He corrected the online instructions that day. Just make sure and use the larger bushing for the top end. I think that's your problem.
