Woodcraft sells individual 48 inch length boards - enough to make at least 30-40 pen blanks.

They ran a special on 24" length boards a couple of months ago. I bought a couple & they are really nice. I haven't had a chance to cut & turn yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

To answer the original question - I don't plan to stabilize because I want to keep the original look & feel, but I will coat the drilled hole with CA to strengthen the internal fibers.
