I was looking at the Schmidt pencil mechanisms for converting Sierra and Polaris pens at Arizona Silhouette and am a bit confused by the instructions.

By their description, you just need to shorten the insert to 3.79". I am confused about what makes the lead come out. My guess is that the transmission pushes the click portion of the pencil insert.

In that case, should you remove the spring from the tip of the pen? If so, what holds the pencil insert in place?

Has anyone actually done this?

The one in the library by Ginandtonic is the best I have seen. Saw him do it in person and it appeared to be a simple thing to do. I think he is actually the one that came up with the design.
