I searched the archives and all I could find is that the typical Sierra style pen blank needs to be about 2 1/4" long - what is the usual mininum square blank dimensions - would a blank a shade under 3/4" be enough? I've never turned one yet, but it's the next kit on my list to try. Thanks!

I have successfully turned a sierra from a 5/8 blank, but you do need to drill very accurately in the center. BTW, 5/8 blanks will work for cigar pens as well, again acurately drilled.

I prefer smaller blanks - less waste to turn off. 5/8" square blanks work well for many pens. Gents, emperors, el grandes, havanas, and such work better with a 3/4" square blank.
