Has anyone ever tryed Shellawax Glow? It is a dark toned version of Shellawax. Anyone know where you can order it besides Australia? I emailed a couple of the suppliers to see if they might handle it but got no response.

You can add any dye that is soluble in alcohol to Shellawax or any of the other shellac based friction polishes. Use one of the pre-mixed dyes, or mix your own from an analine dye that is soluble in denatured alcohol, and then add it to the Friction Polish.

Do the same thing with a lacquer, just make sure that the dye is compatible with lacquer thinner before adding it, or make your own using a lacquer thinner as the solvent.

Not all dye powders are the same. Always make sure that they are soluble in whatever thinner you are going to use.

An interesting dark Burgundy color can be extracted from Blackberries. Let the berries dry to get the water out of them. Then mash the dried berries into some alcohol, and let it sit for a day. A little heat will help. Strain the junk out of the liquid and add it to a shellac Friction Polish, or use it by itself as a dye. It adds a nice color to figured or burl Maple.
