I am starting to experiment with some segmented ideas. Any advance tips on the "right" glue for joining the pieces. I am thinking just plain old elmers carpenter glue.....

It depends on the segmented pen design for me. If the pieces are big enought to clamp I use titebond II. It not I use CA.

I use both ca and Titebond II. I rarely clamp anything. Finger pressure usually gets it. Long pieces do get clamped. One thing wood glue will do is creep. The glue lines will raise after you sand it smooth. Letting it dry for a month or so has taken care of this in my experience. I have only used Gorilla glue once and that was enough[:p]
