It is not cheating. It is simply another medium to work with. If you like it, use it. To me, there are two downsides. Expense. Why mess with it when beautiful natural wood can be acquired for much less cost? But, that's me. And, in my experience, unreliability. I used to use it for some duck calls. But stopped when one delaminated on me months after being turned. Don't need that.
