I am putting together a Emperor in alt ivory with a laser engraved pictured of a friends sailboat in a scrimshaw style. My question is where do you think the pic would look better. The upper barrel or the lower.
I think it would depend on how far around the picture goes on the barrel. If part of it will be hidden under the clip, I would put it on the lower barrel.
I would say that in general the barrel would be the place for the decoration rather than the cap; but every situation is different and individual tasts differ. If the pen is for the owner of the boat, maybe you could ask him/her?
Perhaps you want it to be a surprise; but I would still ask and loose some of the surprise value in favor of producing a pen that meets the preference of the recipient.
