I sand my pens starting at 240,320, 400 and mm to 12000
i read an article about sanding and the steps recomended were 120,150,180,220,280,320,400,and mm to 12000.
What step do ya all use.

It depends on how the tool leaves the wood.. sometimes it needs
100. Sometimes you can start at 400.

Keep in mind that sanding is nothing more than replacing large scratches with smaller scratches. You can go from 120 straight to 400, but the 400 paper will take a very long time to remove the scratch patter from the 120. More steps along the way will generally mean less overall work as you will use the right tool for the job, i.e. 320 is better suited for removing scratches left by 220 paper than 400 is.
