When you want to glue small pieces of acrylic to another piece of acrylic like for making custome center bands, what grit do you sand the ends with? I do not have a sanding machine so I would have to sand them by hand or try and make a faceplate sanding disc for the lathe.

Acrylic is easy to glue together as long as the surfaces are flat and even. Rough up the surfaces with 220 grit and apply medium CA to the entire surface and press together. Give it a short shot of activator and wait for a minute or so and you can prep another surface for gluing. CA and any kind of acrylic work well together. Wood-N-Whimsies has the best deal in town on CA glue and the activator, not to mention everything else "pen turning".

If you think their deals are good, you should check out www.woodenwonderstx.com, the owner is an active member here and has some of the best deals around.
To segment acrylics, just rough it up a little and use a drop of Ca and then a clamp to get the thinnest possible seam.
