Rusted bushings!

I started on an egg kaleidoscope yesterday. I noticed that the olive wood was rather wet and not at all dry. This morning I finished turning the egg and when I took it off the mandrel the bushings were severely rusted!!!

May have to dry the wood before I assemble it!!

Aren't you supposed to crack eggs?
