Rollerball/Fountain pen assembly

When assembling the above kits from Craft USA you are required to make a small notch in the finished end of the cap blank so the cap & clip will set flush. I have tried a small 1/8’ chisel and a rotary tool as they suggest but I am not happy with the finished product. The clip never seems to fit in the notch the way it should. All suggestions welcomed. Do kits from other sources require this notch?

What are you using with the rotary tool to make the notch?

I use a small 'cutter wheel' - sort of a saw edge that's about 1/8 inch wide. works well.

I use a small grinding wheel on my Dremel and it works great. Its about 1/16" wide and I get a nice smooth cut.

After I checked the grinding wheel I used I discovered it was out of round I replaced with a new weel and that took care of the problem. Sometimes you just feel like an idiot.
