Some info first then a question.

Rollerball. -Artisan Jr. Gentlemen II and
Rollerball. Artisan Jr. Retro

Both of these include a Schmidt refill with numbers of 888 and a 606

Question: what would be the best in quality and price when it becomes time to replace the refill or to include with the pen if it is gifted?

IMHO, the 888 is better. Better than that is the 5888, metal body. Especially if the user has a heavy hand. Actually had a looker make a Jr. Gent click and pop when using. Didn't matter which pen he tried.

The 5888 and the 888 have the same tip and same stem. The only difference is the metal or plastic body. In some cases the plastic body will preform better when a slight flex is needed in the refill. Some have said that the 5888 lasts longer than 888 but there is no data to prove this.
