Quick question for the group.
Has anyone turned redwood burl? I found the website: www.redwoodburl.com and have been tempted to get one of the offered burls, but don't know how it would work for pens. Has anyone tried this wood, and if so, is the grain small enough for our type of work?

Redwood burl and redwood lace burl works great for pens. It's tricky getting use to turning it, like most burls, but the rewards are wonderful!

I agree with all above, and I'll add that if you find an extra nice piece you may even want to send it to Steve White and have him stabilize it for you. Steve owns River Ridge Products and does stabilization. Steve also sells blanks that he himself has found and also he sells a dymondwood product, I can't remember off hand what he calls it though. I've also heard lately that he is now selling stabilized corn cobs too.
