Question about engraving

I recently made a matching set of pens for a wedding gift intending to laser engrave them both. They are stabilized box elder. The first one engraved perfect but the second one I cant get to engrave at all, almost as if it is made of steel! Anyone ever run into this?

What are you using for engraving?
If one of the 1000mw engravers did you reset the burn time for the second pen?

I have the same problem! First burn is fine but every attempt after that is a bust. It seems to disregard the burn time and barely scratches the surface. It is the 1000mw version. Is there a trick to resetting the burn time?

I find it is necessary to completely close the program, restart and reload the image and reset the burn time for each engraving

No, I tried a different piece of wood and it worked fine.

I will see if that works when I get home tonight. I got frustrated and closed the app and shut down the computer last night.

here is the one that worked, the other one is identical, (well I guess it isn't identical but same wood and technique)
