I turned my first Euro Fountain Screwcap from Woodcraft yesterday. I thought everything went well until I looked at the pen today. Now there is a blue/gray coating on the nib and the metal ring just above the nib. Any ideas on what went wrong?

Thanks,
Larry

Uncured CA inside the cap barrel?

Do you CA your components when assembling? If yes then that is it.

You can clean that with acetone...just be very careful not to touch any plastic components (or your finish if it is CA).

<br />Next time, leave the cap off for a day or two so it can cure and de-gas to prevent this.

That or get a softdrink straw, put it in the tube and start blowing in the hole, The moisture will help the CA cure much faster.

CAUTION: If your finish is CA...Avoid using accelerator. Never spritz it in, applying it with a cotton swab is better if you have to...else you can mess your finish up!
