Welcome Jean. Yes this is normal for a lot of acrylic blanks. A lot will paint the tubes or the hole in the blank or both before gluing the tube in. I use fast drying spray lacquer with success but others use fingernail polish or model paints or even markers to colour the tubes.

Jean. I turned one of these recently, and there is a picture in my photo album of it. I sprayed the tube with a white primer before gluing. Some of the paint came off with the CA glue, and if one looks carefully, one can see a small amount of the brass showing, but it is not very noticeable. It is a very pretty material, and my wife stole it immediately!

Might as well include the picture. [:)]

Jean I've also done as Ron and Andy suggested with that white blank. I've also tried painting the inside of the blank different colors. It makes a very interesting effect. The best one I've done was painted a dark purple inside. With the varying degrees of transparency it made the pens have several shades of purple as well as white. My wife named it "Purple Ice"
