I bought three Princeton kits from Woodcraft. Put two of them together and couldn't get the clip to go the way I thought it should. Ended up just leaving it off. Anyone else had problems? Thanks.

Ok. Let me try to explain better. The instructions show the parts like this. The clip is very loose and sloppy this way. Surely that is not right. If I move it to the other end it fits but then there is no room to press it into the barrel. I think the parts are right, I just don't understand how it works. Anyone else built a Princeton pen that can help? Thanks

The instructions say:

Next press the smaller diameter end of theTransmission Coupler (H) into Cap (I) followed by the sliding Clip(G) over the other end of the Transmission Coupler (H) and press into one end of the turned Blank/Tube (F)

Is that what you did?

Yes that's what I did. Seems to me the problem is that the clip doesn't slide. It stops on that tiny shoulder. It should slide to the cap to work right. Or am I still missing something?

My understanding from reading those instructions is that you should first press that brass coupler all the way into the chrome button thing, it should sink in there till the step-up hits the face around the opening.

Then although the clip ring is tight, press the end knob through it and force it in there.

Well I did it, but I am a little scared to force things. I used a dremel to enlarge the clip ring. Went together fine then. Thanks.

I had the same problem. What I do is use my Dremel tool with the sanding sleeves and take a little off the inside of the clip ring. I hope you understand what I mean.

Looks like that worked fine.

If you open up the ring too much, it might become loose and spin around the barrel of the pen (it's only held in place by the clamping force of the finial against the barrel).

There's no law against using a tiny spot of CA glue or Loctite just before you give the parts that final squeeze together.
