Princess Pen

I just assembled a Princess Pen. I noticed when I pressed the clip assembly into the cap that the clip (which is spring loaded) stood out from the barrel about 1/8" - for the life of me I can't figure out why. I have made quite a few of these and have never seen this happen. There is a small screw in the inside of the clip mechanism that I tried to loosen and tighten but it made no change for the positioning of the clip.
Any ideas?

Did the upper barrel get turned excessively thin? Otherwise I'd say the clip/spring is stuck and PSI will replace it.
