I thought I would try some polymer clay blanks. I read the tutorials in the library. Watched some youtube videos. Collected materials and so far nothing but disasters. The best effort was my second but after baking I had major chips missing.

I bought canes from Ivy Niles (very nice). I'm using Kato clay for my base and baking for 15 minutes at 150C

One thing I am not sure about is adding a top coat after rolling the thin sliced canes onto the base coat. would that not cover the design. I was looking to be able to just sand and finish with CA.

Any hints greatly appreciated.

I do my polymer clay baking at 275 degrees and bake for 20 minutes. Ya gotta make sure you have all the bubbles out of the clay. Are you keeping the tubes away from the pan? I also use a glass pyrex pan, rather than metal.
