On a recent trip to Convent< Louisiana, I picked up an interesting chunk of "Firewood". But have no idea what it is. When I cut into it, it turned out to be pretty interesting and well patterened. It is heavy, a blank won't float and the moisture is 34%.

Hopefully some one can tell from the pictures.

There are a lot of oaks that fall into three different marketing groups. White Oak - Red Oak, and Pallet Wood.

As I remember there are 26 different oak species in the Red Oak group.

Looks like Oak -- and the locals will have to guide you as to which one.
