I'm doing a little research on unusual materials for penturning, and I want to make some pinecone pens. So, for you people who have made pinecone pens, a few questions:
What do you look for in a pinecone to best suit making a pen from it?
Do cones from a particular specie of tree work better than others?
Are there any hints or tips you can share for working with a pinecone?
Does anybody have any pinecones that they know work well for pens they would be willing to sell?
Along these same lines (unusual materials), are there any other materials that would be similar in technique or concept that you would like to suggest? I already have the corncob thing down, and have some nice cobs. I also have some nice tree-bark that will be fun to work with. Anything else that I should be looking at?
Thanks!
Scott.
