Have any of you been successful in using Elk antler for turning pens? I have a couple of antlers and when I cut into the antler, it appears that the marrow area extends so far that if I drill for a normal 7 nn tube, the whole pen would be made of marrow. The center section (I assume marrow) is a lacy material and sometimes so porous that I can push a screwdriver through it.

Any thoughts, successes would be appreciated.

Elk antler sections are often larger than whitetail deer, meaning that to get down to pen sized, you are bound to get deep into the marrow. If you have a choice, get tines that are not real fat, just big enough to drill and work with. That way you will have more hard material to work with.
