If anyone can offer some wisdom to my afternoon dilemma, I'd appreciate it.

Just got done turning a Polaris-style pen with some maple burl (irrelevant fact) and put it together. The pen mechanism extends fine but it doesn't bring the pen back in when done writing and, instead, sits loose inside the pen until you extend it to write.

What's going wrong or what have I overlooked? Thanks in advance for the advise.

Patrick,
Sounds like you left the spring out. Was there/is there a coil spring on the end of the ink cartridge? If there isn't then that's your problem. Inquiring minds want to know.

Mac,

The spring was in there. I turned the spring over and put it back on the pen and the mechanism now works. The way I had it allowed the pen to have slack within the tube and not retract. Go figure[?]
