Hi

Is it worth trying to source pen kits in Korea or where they are made? I am looking to make a lot of pens and being from Scotland I am looking to save some money:D

Thanks in advance

My sense is yes, you could source pen kits from Korea or
Taiwan. There are several mfgs. that could do that for you.

There are several barriers to entry to think about:

Economic feasibility, you would have to order several thousands per order due to set up costs and minimums by the mfg.

Marketing costs to get the word out, brand awareness.

Supply channels, being able to sell thousands of kits per month.

I guess it depends where you are or where you you want your business to go.

thanks

First of all, what do you consider "a lot of pens"...
Secondly, I think that the makers will not sell you kits that have been designed my any of the other companies that are already being sold. They most likely have signed a non-competition agreement.

If they can not sell you kits that are already in production, are you in a position to design your own kit, pay for the manufacture of prototypes, and then order a couple of thousand kits to bring the cost to a reasonable level.

If you are only talking about a couple of hundred pens, I would contact one of the major suppliers like CSU and see if they can work out some kind of bulk buy deal for you.
