Buy either a slimline or a cigar and buy a gell refill.

Oh, and a sierra would be a good one too.

Hi Chuck,

I agree with the cigar pen, hard to beat it as a tested and well known design. Simple 10 mm drill set up, easy on cost.

To go one notch up I would look at the Junior Gentleman's ball point twist, a bit more expensive, two drill sizes and hardware is more expensive, but a nice looking kit in my opinion.

choices, choices...nice to have, 10 years ago it was very stark!

I don't know of any Cross style gel refills, so the slimline would not work. There have been lots of good choices mentioned. The 8mm euro and perfect fit would also work. How big is your son - particularly his hands?

Really, man that sucks. What's the reason for that and who do we have to bug to get that started?

I too didn't realize that gell refills were available for cross type pens.
One thing I would wonder is how long they will last before they run out.
The Cross refill size doesn't hold much ink.
It seems the regular Parker size runs out fast enough.
That being said I would prefer a gel in a Cross refill myself.

Guy's thank you for the info.

MrCook, My son is my size He's 5'11", 185 lbs & large hands.

Jim,
Gentleman or Jr Gentleman sounds like a viable option.

He wants something larger then a SL but not as large as Cigar. That's approximately th size of the Gentleman line isn't it?

IIRC the gent twist is pretty large.
From the size parameters you describe the Perfect Fit would be a good choice.
It can be modified.

Perfect fit is made by berea, so AS and Beartooth carry them. You can also find them at woodcraft, though usually only in inferior platings.

IIANM WOodcraft ahs discontiued carrying that kit. They called it the convertable pen.
They only had the a mandrel bushings(it takes a "B") and some had problems with having the correct bushings for the mandrel.
I have not had any problems with the upgrade gold plating on the kit so if you can find them at WC as a discontinued item grab it if the price is right.[:D]

My vote is Jr Gent twist pen.

Well made and actually looks better in person than in the catalog (as far as I am concerned). I actually don't like it much before but that changd fast after making my first one. [^]
