Made a nice ebony pen It split a little going together, guess there might of been some glue in the tube or something I thought anyhow very small crack so I brought it to work. But then I just looked at it and there is a huge split/crack up top all the way down the barrel about 3/4 mm wide now. What happened? Did my wood shrink these where blanks from PSI I bought?

Maybe you had a dull drill when you drilled and the wood over heated.

Did you leave it in a hot car.

I learned the hard way had a few pens crack on me in one of my shows in the beginning. I had them setting on a case in the direct sun. They got very hot they were fine when I got home next day after they sat I noticed about 6 pens developed cracks.

So heat very bad if it's too hot for your comfort it's too hot for your pen.

Backfill with turquoise, sawdust from the same ebony or a nice contrasting material and re-turn it. It's that or toss the blank. Ebony is one of the woods that will crack, sometimes for no good reason.
