i have a pecan tree trunk and a few branches
that was cut down a few years ago will this be to soft to turn or should it be fire wood
i cut one of the branches tonight and it was soft the trunk is about two foot across will take pic later

You may have to stabilize the wood but pecan can get some interesting spalting. I have been turning a fair bit of it lately and also doing some flat work with it and think it is pretty easy to work with.

I have made several pens from a pecan tree from my yard in the States. I also have made some from the soft sap wood. An interesting one was a pen made from an amalgamated section of the sap and bark. Since the sap and soft inner bark are different densities, they dry at different rates. I had to use quite a bit of CA in stabilizing it. Very mottled color.

But the heart wood also makes beautiful pens.
