oosic pen and pencil set

I have a customer that has asked for a pen and pencil set made out of oosic. I know what it is but never worked with it. I know somebody has some advise does it work like antler? Its not cheap so I don't want to make mistakes. Any advise is appreciated.

The most recent post regarding an oosik pen was from reed43. Hopefully he will see this post and chime in. I made a pen from oosik a couple of years ago. It's much harder than antler, but worth the effort.

Lou is it true that you need to rub oosik with oil regularly to keep it from cracking and/or shrinking?

Rubbing with oil has always kept my oosik from shrinking. The more regularly the better! I don't eve want to THINK about it cracking. [8D]

Lou I am glad you answered Cav because I was not going to touch that one with or without oil.Oosik is harder than antler, I have had some I had to turn on my metal lathe. Here is a picture of one I did on the wood lathe with regular tools.Some are harder than others.

Sorry Frank, but some oosik is just too old and broken down to be used for much of anything. [}]
