I have a customer that has asked for a pen and pencil set made out of oosic. I know what it is but never worked with it. I know somebody has some advise does it work like antler? Its not cheap so I don't want to make mistakes. Any advise is appreciated.:)

The most recent post regarding an oosik pen was from reed43. Hopefully he will see this post and chime in. I made a pen from oosik a couple of years ago. It's much harder than antler, but worth the effort.

Rubbing with oil has always kept my oosik from shrinking. The more regularly the better! I don't eve want to THINK about it cracking. [8D]

Lou I am glad you answered Cav because I was not going to touch that one with or without oil.Oosik is harder than antler, I have had some I had to turn on my metal lathe. Here is a picture of one I did on the wood lathe with regular tools. Some are harder than others.:D

Now you know why the Walrus is king of the beach...

And DC Bluesman and Cav, if you rub it more than twice, you're playing with it... ;)[}:)]:D

Of Course at our age, we could be refreshing it's memory...[:0][:I]:D

Those oosik rubbers must all be single guys. [:0]

Or at least they will be if their wife read this thread.

As long as they just rub their own oosiks and keep their hands off mine.

Sorry Frank, but some oosik is just too old and broken down to be used for much of anything. [}:)]
