I bought this lathe this fall and have probably put 50+ hours on it. All the sudden at certain speeds I notice this weird noise I have not heard in the past.

I currently have this new noise only at speeds 1300-2000 ish. I have stopped using it waiting to see what I should do before I screw something up.

Thoughts?

When I bought mine back at the first of the year the sheaves were out of alignment and it made a knocking noise. I used a straight end to line them back up and have had no problem since and turned a few hundred pens since.

Sheave / Pulley alignment.

If you place a straightedge across the sides of the sheaves, as close to the shaft as possible, and check for gaps at the points where the straightedge contacts the edges of the sheaves, 4 points. If there is an alignment issue there will be at least one gap, possibly two. Hope this helps.
