A short while ago I posted about frustrations with blowouts with several attempts at turning stabilized burls. Now the good news. With several helpful replies on this forum I have adopted a new gluing technique that I'll share in hopes it may help someone - anyone.
>> A bit more agressive in sanding the tubes very rough for glue sticking.
>> Wipe the tubes clean of sanding dust with alchohol.
>> Using polyurithane glue exclusivly, it's messey, so I use latex gloves and don't touch anything else in that step.
>> Rub the inside of the blank with glue on a Q-Tip, then rub the tube and twist it all the way through the blank - make sure glue is on the end and re-insert the tube from the opposite end.
>> Cure to the next day.
This has proven pretty successful. I've now turned several burl Fat Cigar pens and given them as gifts. Thanks to all of you for suggestions. Including new sources for blanks.
Now I must read up on, and attempt a higher gloss with the widely used CA finish.
Thanks Again
