Some of the supplier sites, such as PSI, have starter sets to get you started in pen turning. Although I wouldn't necessarily recommend buying the set it will give you a good idea what you need to get started. PSI also has a free pen turning DVD.

just what I did to start casting

I will list below everything I bought to start up my casting the websites and how much it was.

http://www.alumilite.com/store/p/107...lications.aspx
$36.00 for 2lbs they have 1lb for $20.00

http://www.alumilite.com/store/p/101...ilite-Dye.aspx

alumilite dye for color $5.75 per color or $63.25 for the color kit

PTownSubbie's 7mm Slimline Series Silicone Casting Mold

Slimline mold was $23.00 You can make your own from PVC pipe i just like not having to drill and place a tube so this mold will hold the tube and you pour around it. Comes out super easy too!

Shop

If you want some glitter or shine I went to Michaels and bought Pearl EX $29.99

Alumlite also has a product just like pearl ex just a little more pricey. I got the peal ex to see if it would work and it does just fine.

Finally the most expensive part is the you have to have a pressure pot with Alumilite to get all the air bubbles out

http://www.harborfreight.com/2-1-2-h...ank-66839.html

PRESSURE POT $99.99
you can normally find a 25% off coupon so it comes to around 70.00
now you have make some minor modifications to it and thats like $10.00 for all the parts

here is the link for a you tube video how to modify it

Now I know you can do all this casting with other resins that don't require a pressure pot but they do require a longer time to cure. The alumilite clear has a 7 min open window time Which flies by but can be turned in as little as 30 to 45 mins with the slimline pen kits. When i buy more resin I will go with alumilite clear "slow" which has a must longer open time (Play around time lol)

Now thats all for casting and i did not include any pen kit items. I hope this was not to overwhelming lol. If you looking to just have a blank made let me know maybe i can give it a try and make it for you. I only have the slimline kit.

Hope this helps
Brian!!
