Anyone know what kind of wood this is? I was told one thing but would like to see if they were correct.
Oh it is not spalted maple for a clue.

I think it's spalted for sure but the grain on the lower right end looks like sycamore to me.
It's pretty and will make a great looking pen no matter what it is.

Any ideas for which kit would look the best? I could get 2 Sierras or 1 cigar or European type I think.

With that spalting pattern, I suggest going with the larger diameter kit. That will show off the pattern better.

If I were turning it for myself, I would go with the cigar.

That indeed is spalted Movingui... mostly sapwood which is whitish while the heartwood is the yellow wood at the end. I have some and you have the genuine article. I am going to turn a pen from mine soon and will post PIX.
