My latest screw up.

My latest pen a Rodium Americana rollerball. I made a cardinal mistake of following the directions instead of measuring the actual centerband. Instruction said to create a 1/4" tenon down to the tube for the centerband. Should have been much more. Now the cap won't snap into the closing cap. In the few other rollerball/fountains I have made I have always had to trim the plastic cap some for a good fit. I'm thinking my best solution might be to try to knock the clip off and trim that end.... ????
Any suggestions appreciated.

I was able to knock the cap off and trim the end slightly. Enough that it now catches some thread on the closing cap and snaps in place.
