Looking for a tutorial on making a modified slimline kinda like this, but not exactly the same. http://www.penturners.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=27161&SearchTerms=slimline

Actually any slimline modifications. Looked in the library and did not see any.

Also have a piece of maple burl and it has a worm hole in it that looks like it may get larger towards the center of the blank. Any way I can fill this to use the blank?

first make sure your lathe area is clean, i.e. no shavings from previous turned projects(there is a reason for this)

i would turn the blank to about 3/16" above the bushings.
now gather up the wood shavings from this material and stuff em into the hole.
soak down the stuffed shavings with thin ca glue and let glue cure.
use gouge or skew and turn the built up shavings down to match blank.
finish turning the blank down to where you would normaly sand it.

hole will now be gone and blank is saved.

Thanks for the links to the mods. Some of them I understand and some I don't, but I will keep reading. Now about the piece of maple burl. Did as was advised on here and it turned out great (in my book). Actually loved the way the glue darkened up the worm holed and larger areas towards the center of the blank. Thanks.
