I made my first continental fountain pen kit last week using Honduran Rosewood. When it was finished I decided that it was too heavy and looked clunky. The brass finials were too large, and the one for the body was just a boring cylinder. So... I decided to modify it to see if it could be improved. I replaced the finials with tenoned plugs of walnut and eliminated the clip [I thought it was ugly]. It is now a desk pen, but the friend who will receive it as a birthday gift is retired and doesn't carry a pen in his pocket anyway. Here's how it turned out.
