I got my hands on several types of micarta recently. I made a gentleman's pen in black linen micatra. As well as a pen from layers of black linen and white paper. I call the black and white one my Pippy La'piew pen. 
It's really hard to turn. It seems to come off the tools really hot. It's also hard on the tools.
The black linen Micarta looks a lot like blackwood or ebony. It's very cool. There are some people who seem to really like it too.
