Does anybody know of a metallic silver blank similar to the color of the helmet below? I was thinking maybe a a couple of the M3 blanks sold on exotic might match...the Solid Gunsmoke or the Solid Galactic Silver. Does anybody know if one of these might work? Is there a non M3 blank that would look similar?

I just got the gunsmoke, it's a lot darker than that. Be careful with the metelic blanks, there're brittle!

Not sure if you cast your own blanks.
If so, using aluminum powder will get you gosh darn close. I casted a couple last week and they look very close.

The metallic blanks are a commercial polyresin. I have no idea how they achieve the effect, but it is pretty convincing.

As resins go, I would rate it "intermediate". Not as easy as well-made homebrew PR or alumilite, but no where near as difficult as Acrylester. If your skew-turning technique is good, you will have no problems.

Thank you all for your responses...you've given me a couple things to think about. I was afraid the M3 blanks might be a difficult turn.
