Aluminum works fine on HSS, but it is slow going. Where leather gloves and face shield. No comment on the Stainless.

Off topic... Navy by any chance? LOL. NAM, Good Conduct x2, Meritorious Defense, GWOT Service, Marksman Expert Rifle & Pistol.

Crash- I was. Ten years. (Three GC, not two & the E denotes Expert) Three of which were in your backyard in Norfolk :)

Aluminum turns pretty easy on a wood lathe. Had much better results with a R4 carbide tool than my hss tools.
