Has anyone made both the Mesa (offered by WoodturningZ) and the Gatsby (by Penn State). I've been making the Mesa, but was wondering if the Gatsby was a better made pen. It looks like the Gatsby runs about 1-2 dollars more.

Mike, I can't tell a lot of difference. I like the Gatsby because the detail on both ends match, is the same diameter, and are "forgiving" because they aren't sharp edges (rounded over).

Mesa is not Gatsby

The Mesa shares looks with Gatsby but the internals are different because the Mesa is a barrel twist and the Gatsby is a finial twist. They are completely different inside.

I'm not familiar with the finial twist assembly. Is this a higher quality assembly? If so, I'm guessing that the Gatsby kit is a better kit for the money?
