I just turned a rosewood blank using the specified bushings. When I started the assembly I discovered that the first component was 0.010" larger than the bushing. And the component had a sharp edge, so it was very noticable. I had to knock it out...grrr.

This is the first time I've encountered this, and it may lead me to abandon bushings, but I do find them to be a safety factor. However, in the future I won't trust them foe sizing.

Do not abandon bushings. Just use them as another tool in the workshop. Always and I mean always use a set of calipers to do your measuring. Today these digital calipers are so cheap that you should have a couple pair around the shop. This was a learning experience and there will be plenty more of them along the way. Good luck and have fun.
