I am curious to know how the grain can be matched on a Perfect Fit pen. The upper barrel tube is 2-1/4" long and the blank starts out the same length. However once you finish turning the blanks down the directions tell you to part off the wood leaving 1-7/8" of wood. By doing this you have eliminated 1/4" of wood at the center joint. On a blank with a figured grain that 1/4" will make a big difference in grain match. I am about to turn my first Perfect Fit and am trying to get things right before starting. Your help will be greatly apprecisted. Thanks.

I have never had a problem as you are anticipating.
The 1& 7/8 is measured down from the cap end.
The area that is parted off gets the decrtive band.
The visual continuity of the grain is still there.
