I picked up some Mango wood at last night's club meeting. I was wondering if any one was turned Mango and how is it to work. Looks like it has some nice figure, but seems pretty soft/light.

Ronald, One thing that sticks out in my mind about mango is that it's a pretty open grained wood. Other than that, I don't recall any particular problems. Compare to some of the woods we turn here, it's pretty soft. Have fun, it makes a good looking pen or even better looking bowl IMHO.

Yes Mango is a truly unique wood to turn. Its easy and when sanded and finished to the nith degree is gorgeous. Just take your time.

Turns nicely and holds up well despite it's softness, given a CA finish.

I thought I would post a picture of what I turned with the Mango. A cigar pen, simple and easy to assemble. I do need to work on my photography skills though, lol.
