I notice that on the Majestic bushings I got recently, the main body portion of the pen has different diameters. How do you folks orient the taper - tapering down to the writing tip, or tapering down to the end cap?

Thanks

I taper it down to the "end cap" end.

that's how the instruction sheet "shows" it, although they don't specify the sizes of the bushings or say "the end bushing is smaller than the center bushing"

I can tell you from experience, if you taper a closed end jr gent down to the smaller of the two trim rings instead of the larger at the nib end, it leaves a noticeable gap between the inner edge of the cap centerband and the nib end of the pen body when the pen is closed :-(

Actually, a quick check with the calipers confirmed your answers. That'll teach me to try and attempt pen work before ingesting coffee from my 67oz IAP Bash mug.... thanks, guys!
