Majestic squire problems

I made a majestic squire, put it together, according to the directions (I have never made one before). It is perfect, except that it doesnt function. The mechanism only twists the refill about 1/16 of an inch, and doesnt retract it all the way. I measured the tube, to make sure that it was the right length, and it was 2" just like on the directions. So what is wrong?

I put a bigger spring in it, and now it works normal. I used a bolt action kit spring.

I believe that the spring is not the same at both ends. It only goes on one way. Try reversing the spring.

Ream out the hole in the nib with a drill bit. Sometimes the plating restricts the hole diameter.

I always put a little "stretch" to the springs with any ballpoint. It seems to help the function and I have never found it to make it function worse.

Do you have a tight transmission? Maybe it just needs a small drop of oil to get everything moving smoothly.
