Has anyone turned pens out of Madrone? Not burl, just madrone. A local guy here is selling blanks for $1.00 each. The wood looks kinda plain to me. Does it show good grain when it's polished? I know it's very hard & I'm also afraid of blowouts.
Thanks,
Tom

I do have a bunch of Madrone, but haven't done any pens out of it. My plans for it was bowls and such. If he can get a buck a blank, I may rethink that. [:D]

I didn't say he GOT a buck a blank, but he's selling them for that.
I am picking up a few today (then I guess he GOT a buck a blank didn't he :)
I'll let you know how they turn out.
