Friends: A couple of years ago the yahoo group had a live chat using PalTalk but it fizzeled. We are trying to revive the chat and here is an announcement about the chat and particulars from the Yahoo penturner's moderator. We are not trying to take away from the IAP chat sessions, but want to invite any penturner to take advantage of this chat time. We are planning to do a different time zone on alternate Wednesday evenings. Anyone may join any chat, but a rotation through the time zones will give everyone a chance to chat at a decent time once each month. Here are the particulars copied and pasted from the Yahoo site:

The Wednesday Night Chat is coming back!

It used to be a regular weekly event. Then it fell by the wayside because of scheduling problems and we never picked it up again. Well, we're about to give it another shot :)

The time will vary! We will alternate between time zones, to make it accessible to more folks. There will be a weekly announcement for the start time. This week, we will have a kick-off at 9 p.m. EDT. Pat Lawson may decide to open the room later that night for a better West coast time - she'll announce here if she does.

The chat we use is PalTAlk because it has a good voice feature. You do need to install some software - but it is free. (There is an add-free version available also for a price, but that is not necessary - up to you). The software can be downloaded at http://www.paltalk.com . You need to do that beforehand, and go
trough the audio wizard to make sure speakers and mike work. Headphones with an attached microphone don't seem to be necessary.

The chatroom won't be visible until a chat moderator opens it. I have Pat for the West Coast time chats, Don Ward for Texas ;) (I mean Central Time ;) I'll open for East Coast time chats, plus I have 2 more volunteers in Mountain Time zone that may or may not come through. To find the chat, log into paltalk at the right time, click on the search icon and search for group 'penturners'. Or in the menu: actions - search for a group.

We may occasionally have a set topic, this week we'll just try it. Talk pens :) In the future, if there are specific topics you want to discuss, drop me a note - we can try to line up some experts.

Rich

Hope this is of interest to some of you and hope you will join in if so interested. It is really neat to talk live and share.

I would hope not. Life if full of choices...The same 6 or 8 people chatted (on IAP) the last 2 times and no one chatted this past wed nite. I made it clear there is no competition between the two chats...just seems like Wed nite is a good nite for stuff like this. I am just trying to make some other avenues to sharpen penturning skill available. Only one reply pretty much tells me of the interest level. I'll remove the post if the membership deems it unappropriate. Just let me know.

Don,

I think Gary was just being a bit sarcastic. It is true that this forum is now superior to the Yahoo forum in a number of ways, but I had always hoped, from the time I joined up here, that there would not be a sense of competition. Alas, hopes often go unfulfilled. Rather than the IAP becoming an adjunct entity to the Yahoo group, it has become an adversary in many ways, at least in some members mind's.

Anyway, as far as the live chats are concerned, it should be possible to log-in to both at the same time (for those gifted with the ability to multi-task, at least). The Paltalk application auto-launches in a small window.

So people can choose one, the other, both, or none of the above.

Don,

I hope you did not take my post as being critical. I was just asking a question as I knew this group was trying to start a discussion at the same day and time. I do visit the "other" group, but not nearly as much as this one. Please accept my apology if you took it that way.

Bill,
I did not take the post as being critical so no apology needed. Maybe the last sentecne in my reply should have been omitted. It made my reply sound just a bit like I was upset and I'm not. Really I'm not. I was a little concerned myself about posting the notice for just that reason...didn't want to interfere with the IAP's chat plans. But, some members do have a mike and maybe would like to participate in a live chat, and at least once a month the chat will originate in everyone's time zone. And as Tim mentioned, some could have both windows open and participate in both chats. Thanks for the reply.
